Kemengerov Koshmukhambet (1896-1937)

Kemengerov Koshmuhambet (Koshke) Duisembayuly  is a scientist, playwright, writer, journalist. He studied at a church school in Omsk, in a veterinary and paramedic school. In 1913 he entered the Omsk Agricultural College. He is a member of the political society of Kazakh youth “Birlik” in 1914-1918. He was  a  editor of the magazine “Balapan” in 1916-1918. In April 1917 he organized  the Kazakh committee “Zhas Kazakh” ( Young Kazakh)  together with D. Adilov and S. Seifullin  in Akmola. He  participated  in the organization of the Akmola Committee of the government of  Alash Orda . In 1918 he was a member and editor of the newspaper “Zhas Azamat”.( Young citizen) In 1919-1920 he worked on teaching   activity, he studied at the medical faculty at Omsk University.  In  1924   he studied at the Central Asian State University (Tashkent). In  1924-1930  he worked as a teacher of this university, a editor of the newspaper “Ak Zhol”, magazine “Sana”. He got to  the first wave of repression of national figures. In 1932   he was transferred to a prison for political prisoners of the NKVD. In  1935   he was released.  Until 1937  he worked as a doctor in the Sharbakkol district of the Omsk oblast. On August 7, 1937, he was repressed.  On November 21 he was shot in Omsk. In  1957  he was rehabilitated.

He was published in the magazine “Ay Qap”. The stories “On the Road”, “Orphan” and others tell of the unequal rights of Kazakh women, the hard life of the working people. The plays “The Golden Ring” (1923), “The Bribes “(1926), “The Old Teaching “(1927) describe social injustice, abuse of power and ignorance of local feudal lords.  Kemengerov wrote works on literary criticism, linguistics and ethnography. The school in Bayanaul, the street in Astana was named by Kemengerov.
